I don’t usually go to dirty markets because it’s hot there and add the fact that there’s the better alternative; the supermarkets but of course, most of the time my mother buys fishes, meats or vegetables there because it’s cheaper compared to supermarkets. But sometimes, it’s not really the case because some vendors are too greedy that they sell some of their goods higher than the one in the supermarkets. If you will only be skeptical about it and analyze some things, you would realize that the extra money you pay in supermarkets is worth it because you have this security that they’re not deceiving you unlike in some dirty markets where they fool you around by putting some dirty tricks just to make their goods look fresh and in supermarkets there are less thieves. I’m not saying that we should avoid buying foods in dirty markets but I just want to tell that this is one of the reasons why the Philippines do not progress. For instance, there is no professionalism and this is evident in some of these places. Most of the time, you could see hodgepodges in the streets in these markets. The plastics, the trashes, or some vegetables are there in the floor. Maybe, they are used to this but after not going to a market for a few years now; I can’t just deny how shameful I feel for them. When I was a child I often see some vegetables in the floor when I’m in my grandmother’s stall while my mother buys some goods. I always think back then that those vegetables could still be used as a fertilizer or you could just plant the seeds but now that I’ve seen no changes in these markets, I realized one of the reasons why some Filipinos stay being a poor throughout their lives. They just don’t value they’re work and they don’t care at all to their consumers. Some of them don’t care if their working place is dirty or not. They just work for the money.
Buying goods in a dirty market is the easiest way to make sure your goods like vegetables are fresh and cheap but does it really guarantee good health.
I now understand the realm that it doesn't mean that if you buy a cheaper good you’ll save more money but no, it is not like that! Reality tells us that buying a P200 coffee wouldn't give the same satisfaction as a P10 one. Cheap is cheap. But the thing is many Filipinos believe that buying cheaper goods means higher savings but that's really a fraud, a marketing gimmick indeed. Eating healthy foods might be a grudge to our pockets but this would avoid us from spending expensive hospital bills
